I'm finishing up the last few details on my dash swap for my 86 Accord, I'm in the process of swapping the VIN plate to the new dash, for the trolls etc, this is the ORIGINAL VIN plate that belongs to this car, it's just being transferred to the new dash, I just know someone is going to say something, or report me again, for even suggesting moving my original VIN plate, Sorry don't feel like toting around the old dash too, like someone suggested, anyway, are these special rivets? I have a ton of rivets, but they won't grab the hard plastic behind the vinyl, I know they are through as I can feel the back of the rivet, I can put my finger in the plastic back of the vent and feel it, but they wont hold, I guess my only option is to make a backing plate to go behind the plastic, or use small machine screws, any suggestions?
The VIN is for the car not the dash, so as long as you have a bill of sale for the "new" dash, you should not have any problems.
We do dash replacements all the time and use 1/8" aluminum rivets and use 1/2" washes with 1/8" holes in them for backing, works evey time. 94

oh, the dash came from the yard years ago, I've been slowly working on getting it done for several years, I still have the original, I guess I'll hang on to it in case I ever need it for molds etc, plastic was splitting on the ends, and it was just worn pretty bad. Sometimes people freak out when you even mention removing and reattaching your original tag. I had started a thread before on this same thing, and the trolls succeeded in getting it closed.

ok it's finally on there for good, I just had to use a rivet a lot longer then I calculated, I have a lot of stainless rivets, and I found some flat looking stainless ones that looked like Honda OEM, It's now officially the new dash for the hatch, and the old one is retired for parts
