Grrr... 200k and timing belt never done?
Hi folks,
This is a follow up thread to my earlier post about doing TB / water pump / head gasket / etc. on a 92 Accord. I got the crank pulley bolt off, finally, and it was torqued down so hard I think it has never been off before. The timing cover bolts seemed to never have been off either, and the timing belt is super loose... lots of slack. In my experience with other vehicles - I'm a Honda noob - timing belts should not be slack like that.
There's almost 200k on this car. Is it possible that the timing belt has never been done?

Yes its possible, anything is possible haha they swap them before 100k as preventive maintenance. You dont want to find out when the belt snaps. The tensioner could have gone bad as well and is creating the slop.
If it really hasn't been done and your car has 200k then the belt will be really beat up. If it's not, then it's been done before. I really can't think of a belt making it past 150k let alone 200k
Years ago a friend had a 5-series BMW and drove it for 156,000 miles before the belt broke. They used to recommend changing that belt at 60,000, so you never know.
