I'm new to forums and personally maintaining my first car i just bought and i drove 600 miles to get it and back drove it without any problems it ran perfectly fine but I burnt the clutch out replaced it and the hose. then it was fine for a day and the next day when i started it, it lagged but turned over and idols fine but comepletly maxes out at 3k in every gear i dont know much more than the basics when it comes to cars but I wanted a JDM Honda for a while and finally saved enough money and ready to learn how to fix, upgrade, and play around. I noticed many people on here carrey a high amount of knowledge in Honda's and wondering if there is anyone with advice to give a begginer?

 

Sounds like it is in "limp" mode? Check the ECU for stored codes, the OBD-II port is behind the ash tray.

Report any codes, the actual code (Pxxxx) and not anyones description of the code.

Many parts stores (outside of CA ?) will scan for codes for free.

The 96 still has the OBD-I service connector behind the glove box.....but the OBD-II codes are much better for giving more information on any issues.

 

Is your check engine light on?

 

when it hits 3k does it pop and miss or does it hold steady, and just not rev any higher? x3 on codes and cel being on. good luck

 

And yes my check engine light is on

 

Then get the codes....the car is in "limp mode". The ecu has "seen" a fault it does not like and is trying to protect the car/engine from damage.
