I have been using this CP7528 Advance Timming Light for a couple of years now on my 99 Honda Civic EX. On this Car I have a total of 4 timming marks in my Harmonc Balancer in these order:

- 14 BTC
- 12 BTC (Stock)
- 10 BTC

- TDC

The problem I always saw is that If I set my timming by pointing to the TDC mark (with the gun **** at 12 BTC), then I recheck by setting the **** to 0 and pointing to the 12 BTC stock this doesn't line up. So at this point I dont know which will give me the correct reading, if using the first or the second method.


Any ideas or know related issues about this?

 

Are you following to a tee the service manual instructions for checking the ignition timing?

How different are the readings?

 

Yes, I am jumping the Service Port so my Check engine light will be on. So If y Measure by pointing to the TDC (the most easy to view) with the gun at 12btc and then I recheck by putting the gun at 0, the 12 btc mark doesnt line up.

And If I do the opposite Line up the 12 mark with the 0 and then try to line up the TDC mark by moving the know It will be at 13,5 btc.

 

So are you saying the reading is off by 1.5-degrees?

Are you monitoring the idle speed to ensure that the engine idles identically to spec for both readings?
