Default Si '00 Stalling/Oil problems

New to cars in general.

I have this problem where I start my car from cold start and then it would
appear to idle just fine, but when I tap the gas pedal once.. it either stalls
out or struggles near the bottom of the RPM.

Also when I turn my A/c on at cold start, It does the same thing like how I tapped the gas(stalls or just hangs on).

Same thing for when I start rolling from first gear or reverse and try to move, I would have to try to keep the RPM up so it would not die out..(balancing the clutch pedal).

And pretty much when I use much power on the car like turning the steering wheel for the power steering to work.. the idle dips. Also when pressing the brakes..

I've been losing a bit of oil and it also smells like carbon inside and outside the cabin.. when it's running

I was wondering if you guys know the cause.

  1. Tell us whether the 00 Si is bone stock.
  2. Post the CEL codes.
  3. Do a full ignition system tune up.
  4. Clean the IACV.

I currently have the same problem for my Del Sol 96 Si. If you figure out the problem, I'd really appreciate it. I don't have the Steering Wheel problem, only when it cold starts putting it in Idle after having it in 1st gear lowers the RPM to the point where it can turn off. Once the engine heats up it maintains it's composure no problem.

Doing a few things to determine the problem, but being new with cars I rely on the mechanic as I learn. So any other outsider information will help. Thanks!

^Basic concept - The fact that two different cars have the same symptoms does not necessarily mean that the causes are the same.

Try cleaning your IACV.

True. If the solution works I'll post what I found/worked on in case someone wants to use it as a reference.

Will try that if it continues. Thanks man!

@Volatile, Yeah man I need a mechanic to check out these symptoms.. which sucks cause I also don't have the tools.. So maybe this weekend if not whenever I get to it.. But yeah it's really annoying.. it's like its lacking power when I turn on the ac and such at cold start but i suspect it happening even at warm temps..

@RonJ, Only thing I have is an aftermarket exhaust, but everything is still stock wise and by full ignition tune up is Fuel Filter, Spark plugs, Distributor Cap/Rotor, Spark plug wire set, right?

Correct...after you add: set the ignition timing.

If I try to go on 1st Gear with the AC on it gets pretty lazy, so I don't even bother half the time until I'm past 2nd. I read this isn't uncommon in older Hondas so maybe overtime it just happens. Thankfully this forum has some useful information to use!

I've had it happen in warm temps but no where near the consistency of when it's cold.

Yeah.. I would normally turn on the a/c when Iam already running on the road. But when it comes to stop lights and such I'm afraid to have it on cause I might die out lol

The problems that you guys describe are all fixable, not normal consequences that must be tolerated because the car is older.
