To have HID Headlights in 1989 is incredible. Very nice car!

 

Damn.....very nice. I really want to move on to build a classic muscle car, but this is tempting as hell....

 

Its funny you say that, my buddy imported a 1989 Volkswagen Rallye Golf and it also had HID headlights, along with factory wide body, supercharged 1.8L and AWD with full recaro interior..

My other buddy just imported a 1989 R32 and should be picking it up soon.

I do have a follow up quesiton, and pardon my ignorance. The other 49 states (outside of California) all have the same policy when it comes to the registration of a plus 25 yr JDM import? Does the federal law encapsulate all the requirments set-forth by the EPA, DOT and NHTS? Thanks in advance.

 

Federally this car does not need to meet requirements concerning EPA, DOT and NHTSA. On a state level - some states require in person inspection at the DMV - regardless of age or how the car arrived in the USA. Usually it would be just like purchasing any other car with a USA title - go to your local dmv / tag agency and pay your taxes and have the florida title transferred to you.
