Default 89 lxi door problem

Need some help from the 3rd gen accord people. I picked up an 89 lxi recently that has damage on doors. So i bought doors from pick n pull off an 89 lx. After installing the driver door, my door hits/bent my fender. Id like to know if the prlblem is because im suppose to get an lxi door? Or the door brackets( the ones with 2 size 12 bolts) were maybe put backwards??

You are going to have to play with the hinges on the door - there is adjustment on them to line everything up.

There is no difference in the "size" of the door between a DX, LX or LXi. The only difference in this gen is the 2, 3 and 4 door....and trust me there would be no way you'd get close to putting a 2 dr on a 4 dr car.

Me, well I've owned or own.....86 DX 4 dr 5 speed, 87 LX 4 dr 5 speed, 88 LXi 4 dr auto, 89 LX 4 dr auto, 89 LXi 2 dr 5 speed. Great "little guys" IMHO. Two "left" running to new owners....two lost to driver error (one by another driver, one because my youngest tried to take it "off road")....and the last, well we went for a little drive this morning ...over ~25 years old, over 200K miles and still gets ~32 mpg

Nice. Yeah i didnt know anything about these models untill i bought mine and theyre great. I think the lxis are rated at 120hp and like 122tq, 89 lxi > 89 civic si.

But anyways, how do i adjust the hinges? I did remove that little pin on the upper bracket, then i bolted the bracket onto the door, slid it onto the door frame, and then i pushed that pin up thru the hole and put that washer in place, then the bottom bracket was easy to bolt. How do i properly adjust it?

It is kind of a "find your way there" thing.

Too late for this tip, I would have used a marker and made some marks on the "body" around where the hinges were mounted. Then when the new/used door went on, line the hinges to the marks on the body.....just as a starting point.

You can use a floor jack (put a rag or something between it and the door) to help hold the door up while open as you loosen the four bolts - then move/slide the door back a tad - tighten the bolts. Close/open the door slowly and see what you have.
