Battery relocate problem

Default Battery relocate problem

I have searched around. Googled and googled more and I cant seem to figure it out. I recently tried to relocate my battery to the truck with a external shut off. Ran a 4 gauge wire all the way back and had a distribution block up front. Car cranks slow, And when it did start my battery didn't have enough volts to run my AEM injector driver . Battery is good. Starter is good. Alternator is good. Could it be the 4 gauge wire not big enough? Or distribution block? I read on a forum here that 4 was the smallest you could go? Anyone else ever had this problem?

Charge the battery and try again, you might've left the battery on the ground or something to discharge the battery.

Should have mentioned I did that. lol About 5 times. Also switched up grounds 3 times. Added more engine grounds aswell. When I got on, it you could tell it spit and spuddered. Had no boost . So I pulled the laptop back out and checked hondata and saw I was only at 11-12 volts. Moved battery back up front and worked great.

i would assume your wire is nicked and grounding out to frame, if you didnt grommet your holes and tie it up properly in a hanger I could see this happening

Yup

thats alot of copper to send volts thru..

What I did was use a Shuriken BT20 slim battery. Weighs only 15lbs and u can use the Odyssey brand tray that fits it for mounting under dash or where ever

Holes all had grommets on them (Im very **** about that stuff lol) Also wire loomed the whole wire all the way back. Im running a 100 amp breaker on the wire and a 100 amp fuse. Wouldn't that pop if that were the case? Maybe? Idk? lol

That is one thing I didn't really try, was a new battery. Just didn't really want to go buy one if I didn't have to. But you are right, may be my only option.

I may have to just bite the bullet and buy a new battery and see. I would have to do it in the trunk tho because on my external shut off that's already mounted out back.

I'm going to try a new battery and a 0 gauge power wire. Because it wouldn't make sense to do a new battery and nothing else. I would be in the same position I am in now.

IM wondering why you need a rear shut off anyways. If sommething happens, youll need to stop the car, get your *** out of it and run to the rear.
Makes no sense to me. But hey, its your car.

The small BT20 battery fits under the dash. Its a sealed unit.

What's the CCA rating on the battery you have now? I've had this same problem and swapping the battery for one with more cold cranking amps fixed it.

Edit: 0 gauge is a bit overkill IMO.

Yeah, I always thought the zero gauge was over kill aswell. But running out of options lol. Battery is 425 CCA.

Did your Hondata show 11-12 volts with the car running? If so, I would suspect a bad alternator.

The first of its kind, had a friend who already had the battery in the back, miatas, and he ran 0 gauge. Yes it was over kill but he does not have the problem your having.

stock battery eh?


check out anti-gravity batteries, ranging from 2.5lbs with 360CCA to 10lbs with 430CCA. afaik they are a seal battery as in you can run them just bare in the cabin. I live in Ontario so our are probably different we have CSCS.

Yeah, That's exactly what hondata was showing.
But I had the alternator checked and they said it was good to go. But I might see if someone has one laying around that I could do a swap on. Could eliminate that or tell me if your right lol.

Yes stock battery, I was looking at those anti-gravity batteries. Good Reviews? Any others you guys recommend?

That's what I figured. Stock battery does not have enough CCA's to travel thru all that cable. Look at other car manufacturers that have the battery mounted in the rear like BMW. Their batteries are 750-850cca. Not saying that you need that much but 425cca is a little low IMO.

EDIT: Have you load tested the battery?

Yeah I'm going to check it out. Maybe go with a nice aftermarket battery? Like lighter smaller one with more cca?

Also yes I have. It was good. Battery is maybe about 9 months old.At most. Had to put a new one in after it sat for winter.

I've been using 4 gauge for years and it's been fine. Engine running with loads on or off, your data should show about 13.6v. 11-12v tells me your alternator is not putting out.
