Default h22 rod options.

What are my options for h22 rods in my all motor built.
I'm thinking that the usual h beams are a bit heavy.

My first thoughts are carrillo pro a's.

Thought of aluminum rods like BME?

Definitely lighter than standard h beams.

I have read a small amount about them. Whats needed to enable these to be run? Notching etc.
Has anyone got a weight of one of them?

Adam.

Is this a full race only motor or something that will be driven daily/more frequent? That plays into rod choice as well.

Sorry i should have said.
Its purely a race engine..

Will aluminium rods allow me to spin it harder?

yes and no, It will still spin to whatever rpm it stops making power. The only major factor is with the lighter rods you will have less rotating mass which will allow for a faster rotation overall

Just keep in mind (someone correct me if I am wrong) aluminum rods need to be cycled and changed which has a definite cost and time factor to consider.

I plan on only rebuilding the engine every couple of years. So what are the pros and cons of an aluminium rod. Apart from the rebuild part.

I mainly only use 3rd gear (s80 box) on a dirt quarter mile oval. So rpm limit will give me more top speed. Not really time to change gear during race.
I do have a very short 4th gear fitted. (1.296) if i am not fighting for a position.

yes they do require to be changed. I can't recall the exact interval, but it does require them to be changed eventually.

I spoke to my builder about aluminium rods. He has told me to leave as they are more for drag purpose.

So come on guys. What rods are you using????
