Transmission slips when cold
I have a 94 accord and the transmission slips only the first time I take off,the first time I drive the car only in cold weather. I checked the fluid and it is in the hash marks on the dip stick but looks as if it needs changing. Question is would it help stop the slipping if I changed the fluid and filter?
Change the fluid via draining. Filter is not readily accessible, the trans needs to be removed and the case opened to get to it. There is no removable pan. Add some cleaner such as Sea Foam Trans tune to help wiht cleaning/unsticking valves.
Usually with higher mileage H4A trans(90-97) when first starting off after shifting into D4>D1 allow the trans to fully pressurize that circuit. You will feel the initial engagement of the trans, but a moment later the circuit will fully pressurize and properly engage.
If that is the case then the trans is just getting older, seals are not quite as good, and it just needs a moment to be fully functioning and operational.

Thanks Mike, The transmission has 278k on it and only does this on cold mornings. Do you know how much transmission fluid I need to get for a fluid change?
This morning while warming the car I shifted the car in all the gears and left them in each about 15 seconds. When I was ready to go the transmission worked perfect with no slipping at all.
About three quarts will be needed per drain/refill.
If the car sits for a few days I often charge all gears before taking off. Seems to reduce a delay in a given shift. Normally I put the car in gear and give it a moment after the initial engagement before taking off.
