will a 95 civic auto transmission work on a d16y7 '96 dx

Possibly not, speed sensors will through a fit, you're missing the linear solenoid, CEL light will be on and the car will not move. Don't think that swapping over sensors will work because it depends on the gear inside the tranny.

All of this info can be found by comparing both trannys using the helms manual, which you can download from hondahookup.com
