Default Toda B camshafts + extras (?) for my 2001 DC2R

I have been quoted $1550AUD shipped for TODA B cams, gears and springs for my DC2R with 60,000 miles on it, which I think is pretty good.

I am after mid range with a slight top end improvement and bit more aggressive VTEC. The dealer has suggested a head service aswell and other items which I am not sure of so need your opinions, this is their message

Hi again,

I would be doing the head service personally yes, there is good power to be had in the service and also running a thinner gasket to increase the comp while there.

Even if going 440 injectors, you'll still probably want to run a fpr, but chat to your tuner and see what he suggest.

2k budget for your head items is well within, I did up the following pricing for you on a new Toda setup and used setup I have here from another client.

Toda Spec B cams, Springs and Camgears, all new, shipped. $1550.00

Used Buddyclub Spec 3, Valve Springs and Cam gears $1000.00 shipped ( These parts have only done about 10,000kms, they were not in a daily and the guy went to a 2ltr setup with bigger cams. )

Not being biased, the Toda cams do run better, but if you wanted the used setup and use the other 1k for head service, gaskets and injectors, also something to consider.

Let me know what you think you'd like to do, and if keen on the used package, speak with the owner and organise it with him for you both.

Also, if you need timing belt, tensioner and water pump for the 100k service that I would do at the same time, let me know, got it all.

Cheers.
What do you suggest, would I need to upgrade injectors and include a fuel pressure regulator, and is a head service absolutely necessary? How will the Toda B's idle compared to stock. Remember my 2001 ITR has apparently, bigger cams compared to previous ITRs. My timing belt was only done a year ago with a Gates one, would that need replacing for the cam gears aswell ?

This is my daily drive and needs to be streetable, I do not spend a lot of time redlining. Would be tuning with Hondata S300 and motor is stock apart from fujitsubu exhaust power getter and header 4-2-1

$1500 is pretty damn cheap for Toda stuff. That is about what we pay here for just the camshafts...

$1500 for the cams, gears, and springs is almost too good to pass up...

Yea that is what I'm thinking but dont want to get stuck purchasing them and relaising if I need to purchase other items which may or may not be necessary. So need opinions, especially other owners with similar application

Are you familiar with the characteristics of the Toda B's vs other cams? What are you looking to get out of the motor/use it for? That is a pretty killer deal regardless, but if "peak" power is what you're after, there are "better" choices. If it's a road race/auto x setup...fantastic choice. Just my opinion.

Its my daily drive so midrange is my main focus with bit more aggressive VTEC. Not too fussed on big top end gains.

So can anyone suggest if I need bigger injectors or a fuel pressure regulator and a head service?

Yeah thats a pretty good deal.

FPR not required
Injectors I would do for some more headroom, std ones run pretty much 100% duty cycle at redline so good to have some room.

You probably wont get "more aggressive" vtec, but will get a lot more low end and midrange, and lumpier idle.

Dont need to replace the belt/pump/tensioner if you know they were done not too long ago - personally when my cams go in i'm doing them as their age is unknown.

I would look into Injector Dynamics, Grams or RDX injectors. Better spray patterns for more power and efficiency.

If you want to do a FPR and up the pressure I would also do a bigger fuel pump with it. Aeromotive makes a nice setup. This is not required however.

Since it will be apart i'd do a new tensioner, water pump and a gates blue belt. Cheap insurance.

What is everyone's opinion on my stock compression of 11:1 with these cams?

and is it possible to have these installed and then drive to the tuner, or is it completely not driveable before tuning ?

$1500 for cams, springs, and gears by the looks of it

this may also be in AUD which is weaker than the USD

Just depends on how far you need to drive, the current tune etc etc. I would see if you can get a basemap from someone. There are a few guys on here that I'm sure can get you what you need.

I think you can make more power for less money, if that's your goal.

I made good peak power with these on my stock bottom end gsr. The motor needed more compression or displacement to set the vtec lower. We set it at 5900.

Its a great cam. I'm going high comp and purchased a set of spec c.

My goal isn't big numbers, just better midrange for improved daily driving. Looking more towards buddyclub spec 3+
