This is not my first time around a vtec head, ive done many valve seal jobs no problem. But my first time building a head this is a experience very easy? I think not.......

I finished building this head and I threw some stock gsr cams in it just to see what was going on make sure she opened up nicely. Now this was strange to me and I never came across this issue before but how come this is happening?

I cant seem to think of a reason why this would happen, maybe the valve lash is not correct wich is making the valves open at a uneven mark im not sure. Honda-Tech please elaborate to me whats going on cause im clueless.....

This head is suppost to get slapped onto my block tomorrow night and out to get degreed wensday. (by the way not the gsr cams but my pro2's!)..

The valve just doesnt look seated right to me, IMO even if the valve lash was offit shouldn't look like that. Do you have the cam bolted to the head right now? If so rotate it enough to check the other cylinders too just to be on the safe side. But it looks to me like its not seated right where it connects to the springs

 

so just reseat the valves? When I was seating them the pitch change sounded good and it felt great.. ill throw some compound and do the seating again to see but it seemed good. A buddy of mine said that same thing.

 

BTW THIS IS ALL VALVES when they open there all uneven I don't understand why. I seated them correctly. I watched numerous tutorial videos and read so much information to make sure that I did it right, this sucks. If you seat the valves too much does the valve go to waste? And that question goes vise versa for the seat itself. Can you mess a seat up by lapping a valve X amount of times?

I have a whole other valvetrain package in my basement if all goes wrong but im hoping that's not the case.

 

The one question i have is, is the cam bolted to the head while your checking i know it seem obvious but its a thought ive been wondering

have you looked at the camshaft or checked the install height without the camshafts in to make sure there all even?

 

That is completely normal. Look at the lobes on the cam. The middle one (vtec) is the biggest, and the ones beside it are smaller, but they are not the same size.

This promotes swirl-filling of the combustion chamber and a more complete air-fuel mixture.

 

What was said above me is technically true, but the stock gsr cam`s vtec lobes should not be engaged without any oil pressure. If that were the case you would constantly be in vtec throughout the RPM range while driving.

 

I never said the Vtec lobes were engaged. If they were, the valves would/should be equal height.

 

So this is fine there is no problem to the head? Everything looks good?
