Changing out a axle -- How To
The CV boot ripped apart on one of my cars on the driverside, and I'm thinking I'm going to replace the whole axle.
My main questions are how do you get it out from where its connected to the trani? I'm guessing you have to pry it out with a big screw driver?
Also, how do you get the new one back into the trani? Do you need any special alignment tools?

Pry it out...
Push it back in. passengers side will need to be "tapped" in.
The HELMS manual shows where to pry as to not damage any oil seals.
No special tools.

Just remove the lower ball joint, and pry it out. It's kind of a pain, but if you're not going to be reusing the axle kick it's ***, seabass. Just don't damage the intermediate shaft/seal.
Wondering on this topic too. The Helms manual states that you need a ball joint remover tool, is this not needed for a changout of the axle?
But you really don't need anything but a jack. If you put a wrench handle or some other tool in next to the balljoint btw the knuckle and lca, just jack up the suspension and it will pop free.
PS. Watch out it mite scare the pp outta you.
