Best way to remove clear coat?
So the front bumper on my 2000 Civic has a vertical crack straight down the center where the PO hit something. I have a replacement bumper that I want to put on, but it looks like *** because the clear coat is peeling on it. What is the best way to remove the clear coat so that I can respray it? The bumper is off the car currently and I'd like to get it looking decent before I put it on. If possible, I'd like to be able to just remove the clear and respray that, rather than having to repaint it and then clear it. Any advice is appreciated.
Not going to be able to sand just clear off, if color is correct and clear isn't pealing off. You just need to sand 800 and clear. if clear is pealed you need to sand the whole thing down and base and clear the whole thing.
Clear has peeled off completely in a couple of spots but the majority of the bumper still has clear on it. So it sounds like I just have to sand it down completely and repaint if I'm understanding you correctly.
