Greetings to all,

Could you please tell me how much trans fluid is needed when flushing a 93 accord transmission? The dealer told me that if the trans drain plug is opened then about 3 liters will be drained out.

But, I am planning to open the outlet line that goes to the radiator and try to get all the old fluid from the torque converter as well.


Also, are the Honda ATF DW-1 and ATF Z-1 compatible with each other (i.e. can they be mixed)?

flushed are not recremmended because u will be running the trans low on fluid during the flush. but if u insist there is a video on youtube which shows a way of flushing. cross ur fingers and rub a rabbits foot

 

Just do 3 drain and fills with a bit of driving in between, trans only takes 6.3 quarts or something (my 97 takes that much i assume 93 would be around that but not sure) so drain and fill with 9 quarts will get all the old fluid out without risking damage to your tranny.

 

That is about correct. 2.5-3 quarts is what usually comes out.

This is a bad idea.
There is no serviceable filter.
There is no pan to clean.

Draining pulls any contaminants away from the sump pickup. If the slurry of old clutch material and wear particles clog the filter the transmission will no longer function.
To replace the filter requires transmission removal and opening the case to replace the clogged filter. The best thing to do would be to drain and refill the case. This will remove the heavy contaminants away from the sump that would otherwise just accumulate and eventually block the sump filter.

This is the only correct way to change ATF in a Honda AT.
