Default Another EBP EM1 restoration thread.

Its been a while since I made a build tread on here.
I first saw this car parked at a Near by base 8 years ago, it looked like the valve cover was sitting on the seat, curious to found out who owned this car but he was deployed at the time could not reach him, despite blue swede interior which is not too bad, the exterior was flawless. I forgot about the car PCS to the states and moved on to other things. 3 weeks ago I was on this base again, my current car blew a brake line so I went to the junk yard and pulled one to get me home, while I was there I found the same civic of 8 years ago in painful looking condition, completely striped and interior ripped to shreds, exterior in semi good condition, hood bent, fenders dented, front bumper missing, rear bumper rice, windshield busted, wires chopped to ****, air box busted, mirrors missing, side moldings and so on, light rust. trunk rusted from the riced out sound system, and under body neon wiring. I ended up buying the shell for $350 from the yard plus a lot of other parts.

parts I've sourced so far:

OEM Interior from a 1999 German EDM civic, including wiring and dash board
heater control components are original EM1
OEM rearbumper
OEM front bumper
replica tail lights
OEM headlights
OEM SI mirrors
OEM SI front grill
OEM SI front lip
OEM SI cluster

the EK/EM1 specific suspension parts are already on order. most of the front parts will be transferred from my Del Sol such as the non power steering subframe and lower control arms.
motor and transmission will also be transferred from my 662whp del sol.
wire tuck and brake line tuck is in order....

well I will update as I make progress:
here are some before pics.....

pics does it no justice but I see light at the end on the tunnel in a short period of time, even though I plan to take my time.

it seems pretty straight, found some lite rust in the usual areas but nothing major.

I scheduled this project for 1 year progress, and myself being so impatient I already have or ordered 90% of the parts already, and just waiting for my last race of the year before I dig in.

haha i hear ya there. I myself am restoring a '00 ebp em1 too and I'm keeping this one as my "forever" car, and even with that amount of time, I'm itching to get all my parts and stuff done ha.

I've been through 4 project cars in the past 4 years, because I can't make up my mind.

OP, that's some dedication to bring something like that back to life.

Stupid IMO for the PO to scrap it. I'm sure they could have easily sold it for more than scrap price.

Good luck with your revival!

yeah, the bad thing about cars like these, people see them in yard as a quick $ and take all the high demand parts without regard for the rest, so the cut wires, rippoff panels, destroying the rest.
its really a pain the way the US army europe registration process goes, the original owner knew nothing about his car, basically was a rice bucket, under body neon sound system blue swede interior and mad crazy electronics, he blew the engine and did not use the surrounding resources such as guys like me who stockpile honda parts, therefore the registration on the car expire, he is forced to register it INOP because the car has to pass inspection to registered for more than 3 months, he left the car abondoned, and it was impouded, then sent to the junkyard in great condition, but AHOLES stripped and broke parts off they think could make them money. I am trying to reach out to buy these parts back. lol. but in actually all I need right now is a front bumper, lip and grill. everything else is on its way.

I figured the bone yard vultures swooped in on that one fast. Anything that was si exclusive surely got torn out of the car the first time someone who knew what it was saw it.

Sad sad

Ahhh the good ol' days. I miss blasting down the A6 in my EM1 with my homies to Saarbrucken and hitting up The Kufa. I wonder if that's still around.

Well, that sucks. We always preferred that place over Black Sounds because it was ghetto as hell.

GL on the resto, sourcing parts over there was never easy when I was there.

doner car for front bumper, this car could have been my holy grail for everything to restore mine but some ******* have been hitting up all the junkyards around the area and tearing up all the cars to sell the rare US parts to Germans, and when I say tear up I mean using a pry bar to rip door panels off to get power windows, tearing out dashboard and cutting up harnesses to sell the climate control, I met this guy and felt like breaking his nose, it was the same guy who tore my car up before I bought it, I confronted him and told him if he don't know **** about Hondas leave them alone, and stop being selfish, I have the chance to work at the yard and if do, best believe there will be changes. Anything you damage while taking off a part, you will buy.
