2012 CRV EX-L
Wife just bought a slightly used CRC EX-L to replace her 2004 CRV. Great, safe car Less than 9k miles. Problem is the computerized milage indicator. On a fill-up for the first 50 -75 miles - it indicates about 19 mpg - mostly single person, no load, highway mileage at 55-60 MPH. It does not change more than 0.1 to 0.3 MPG no matter how hard or soft she drives it.
Then it may slowly increase to indicate about 24-25 mpg. Our hand calculated milage based on four tank fills is 28-30. The calculated - miles to go - also is strange - jumping down up to 40-50 miles within three to five minutes.
Has anybody else had this experience? Is the computerized mileage indicator so unreliable/inaccurate? or back to the dealer? Comments/suggestions/recommendations welcomed.

are you reading the overall mpg or the instant mpg?
instant: coasting it will soar. heavy load it will drop.
overall mpg will steady out overtime and is a average over the lifespan since its last reset. if you rest it frequently it will fluctuate more often.
