I have a 1999 Honda Civic EX I bought brand new and love but I have two problems.

Problem 1: For the past few years, especially in the heat and humidity, the car won't start on the first try. I will turn the key and nothing happens. There is not cranking sound and not warning lights. After a few tries the car will eventually start. I had the started replaced a few years ago and this seemed to help but the the problem came back. A friend suggested I try starting the car in neutral when this issues happens and that seems to work.

Problem 2: I was driving home from work in February when the car just died. It turns out the ignition coil had to be replaced. The part was replaced then the 'check engine' light came on/ The code indicated I needed a new catalytic converter. My wife's coworker's husband is a mechanic and said as long as the car is driving fine there isn't an issue but every time the code is cleared it comes back again. Should I replace the catalytic converter?

 

When you turn the key and nothing happens, does the CEL come on for ~3 seconds, then turn back off? Can you hear the fuel pump priming?

What EXACTLY is the CEL code?

 

i have honda civic 1.6es,injectors are not opening,squirt gas down air intake it runs.for few seconds,main relay,fuses plugs/sockets checked ok.wher do i go from here?PLEASE HELP getting to end of my tether!! Hope this is correct procedure if not , sorry.
