new clutch what kind is the best?!
I have a 2000 civic lx and need to replace the clutch once again. Not sure which brand to get as the middle priced one I bought last time only lasted a little of a year! Please help with any ideas!!!!

For the Daily Driver, what NotARacist supplied is pretty accurate but I would still suggest getting OEM throwout and pilot bearings and toss the ones from the Exedy kit. The pressure plate and clutch disc are very good though for daily use.
If you are getting into racing and are not concerned with hard shifts then you would probably look into ACT race puck clutches and pressure plates. I'm sure there is other high quality race ones out there too just not sure of the top brands. But you would also be paying top dollar and loosing the comfort and ease of use of the daily driver clutch setup. Parallel parking and parking lot driving would not be as smooth or easy.
So like tony mentioned, depends on what your goals are for the car.
Considering that the OP failed to mention any of that in his post, and given the very simple forum rules of "all relevant information required", either OP has a factory car, for daily driving with no track use, or the OP failed to follow simple rules, and is getting shitty advice.

The Exedy aftermarket bearings aren't THAT bad. For most applications, they're fine. I've never had issues on D/B/K/H series ones for DD or even track use. The one car I always suggest genuine honda disks/bearings on are S2000's. Then again...all the steps/part choices for clutch jobs on that car are extremely specific.
For heavy track use, though, I would recommend genuine Honda bearings on anything (Honda/Acura). And I would still recommend an Exedy OE or stage 1 or race setup. I'm not an ACT fan.

Well it is not a race car lol. I drive it like one sometimes and I am hard on my clutch. I had to have it replaced last year and bought a cheap one from advance auto and it did not last long imo. Thank you guys for your feedback I will look into the ones that you have suggested as it will be replaced within the next month or so after the timing and a few other things are done since my car is falling apart lol.

You know whats funny, someone said they swapped, and I quote, " 92 civic Lx motor (usdm 97 gsr) into a 93 civic hatchback dx single head". Reading something like that just makes me wanto to ensure the right information is needed all the damn time...
I understand. I am going to attempt to do the job on my own. Just going to depend on if I can get the first bolt off! I was told the engine needs to be lifted out to do it?
yes you can lift out the whole engine/trans assembly as one peice, which imo is the easiest way. on the other hand, if you dont have access to an engine hoist, put a jack under the engine block and undo the tranny side mount and one on the back, use jack under engine to lower engine down until tranny clears frame rail, pull tranny off from under car.

Why is pulling the whole motor easier? Even if you don't have AC/PS, you have to drain the coolant, remove the wire harness, etc.
Hold the motor with a jack/hoist. Drop the trans. Scream obscenities at it. Reinstall it. Live your life.

Yeah, there's no reason to pull the whole engine to do a clutch job. Remove the transmission, remove the clutch and flywheel, have the flywheel resurfaced, replace your pilot bearing, reinstall, done. You should consider replacing the seal back there as well.
Yea that seems like a lot. I am just going to pay someone to do it again or have my ex do it. I am very limited to what I do on my car and that seems like a lot of work for a little girl like myself!!!! Thank you everyone!!!
I will say, my Exedy clutch disc has taken the abuse of all the hills I drive every day to and from work in the great NW. Gotta love these mountainous roads....
