well this is kinda weird...jus recently i have had this burning smell coming from my 96 gsr...i smell it inside but not outside....it has 75,000 miles and has a rear main seal leak.....i mean the car is going into the shop soon but the smell is pissin the hell outta me...i hate to smell things like that...anyone have any ideas?...thanks alot

p.s. it happens sometimes when i put the heat on...thanks again

Mmmmm..i would probably say that its the leak thats causing the smell..you know...oil leaking onto a hot block/engine and burning!

what the hell is a rear main seal... valve cover gasket leaking at rear????

 

Last time I had a oil change they dripped some oil on my engine. When I drove it back uphill it started steaming and it smelled bad. If you want to be risky, see if you can drive it off.

 

Rear crankshaft seal on motor. Looks like a cam seal, but larger diameter. Big pain to replace.
