H22 94 Civic VX cranks but wont start
I was in the process of moving and about an hour into my drive the speedometer went to zero and the car started to deaccel. Just like if you had your car in 5th gear and let off the gas. I started to floor it, nothing happened for about 5 sec, then the car started jerking and accelerating. I didn't see any check engine lights. Keep in mind the the speedometer was the only one acting up; RPMs, temp gauge, fuel gauge, etc were all fine. I pulled over at a rest area and turned my car off and then tried to turn back on. The car would crank but wont start. I also noticed the check engine light wasn't going off on the accessory position. So I tried to pull the codes and the check engine light wasn't flashing. Which I know usually means an ecu is bad. I'll be honest, I haven't been able to hook up another computer due to where I moved to I don't know anybody. My question is, is this a normal characteristic when a computer goes bad? Or is it something more involved than just a bad computer. I don't understand why only the speedometer will go to zero (when I'm doing about 80mph) and fluctuate then my car would start deaccelerating. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. I was able to get another ecu to try that had an s300 in it and the light didn't light up at all, like the computer wasn't getting any power. I changed out the main relay and still no power to the computer. I tested the ecu fuse and all my fuses, they were all good except the ACG fuse. Which was blown. I put another 15A fuse in it and as soon as I turned my car to the acc. position the fuse pops. But I heard my fuel pump prime. So I put a 20A for the hell of it and started it right away. It ran for about 3 sec. till the fuse popped and the car died again. I disconnected my kill switch, thinking it could be the culprit, the fuse still pops. I think I'm going to disconnect my fuel pump relay, then my pump to see if it still pops. If it doesn't then I guess we found the issue.
Yes it had a stock d15z1 in it. Reason for the vx was for the fact it had vtec wiring already. I did the swap in '08 so its been awhile the swap has been running. But I had to rewire the alternator, injector, etc wiring to the h22.
most likely an ignition switch problem, the speedo acting the way it did is a dead give away, also the main relay losing power from the ignition switch would cause your fuel pump to shut off causing the car to bog out. These switches had a TSB recall about the contacts inside wearing out, check that as it is free to do and really easy to check the switch.

I replaced the ignition switch earlier this year. I know weirder things have happened than an ignition switch giving out after a short amount of time. But would that cause the 15a ACG fuse to pop? I just disconnected my main relay and the fuse didn't pop. I got another main relay and plugged it back in and the fuse popped. I probed where the power should be in the main relay and there is mv coming from it.
ACG fuse pops when you have a short to ground between the U/H fuse box and dash relay center. look for bare or broken wires coming from ignition switch all the way down to the relay box, also check the harness that comes in from the right side and left side on the bulkhead. Also still check the ignition switch a bad one can blow ACG. pop out the white switch unit on the lock tumbler and open it up and check that all the connection on the 2 sliding disks dont have corrosion and arc spots. If it is the switch you can get a replacement from ebay for $30.
