Icon3 WTF WAS THAT NOISE

title only for attention (but need dire help) ahah but story is that yesterday as i was driving home noticed a sound coming from my front right tire/wheel or brakes. checked it out and nothing. thought it just might be a can or something (which i didnt check to see if there was any debris) afterwards a whirring sound came from the same corner but i also now get a whomping sound as i come to a complete stop (same side). once again when i get home i check it out. jack the car up/took the wheel off and inspected everything. nothing looks out of place. only reason i would suspect is maybe my calibers arent torqued enough. i recently changed them. hopefully i get my answer tonight and will update with pics but in the meanwhile, any advice from the honda gods?

Are the bolts still attached to the caliper? I've seen them back out and stuff goes crazy. You'd be able to see that though. I'd suspect it is something in your brake set up. The whirring sounds like rubbing. The womp sounds like something isn't working as it should. Did you bleed the system correctly? I'd just inspect the whole thing.

Your wheel bearing may be done. I would replace it regardless. And at the same time replace the hub with new wheel studs. And it if turns out to not be your wheel bearing, then you have piece of mind that it is finished. When you find out what it is, will you let us know?

Don't go throwing parts at it like a wheel bearing without at least diagnosing it somewhat!

You said you worked on the brake system recently. I'd go through and triple check everything first.

i was going to check the brake pad and clips to make sure they are mounted securely. bleeding the lines was a bitch but they were done on all four wheels freemananana as far as the wheel bearing/hub and studs i have already been contemplating changing them on account of age and rust. cant really work on it till the late afternoon for the reason that i didnt bring my car to work.

Check the backing plate - I had a slightly bent one that made a noise that drove me nuts for about 2 months. Bent back, replaced a shitty rotor/pads and noise is gone.
As for your Whomp noise, could be any of the things already mentioned.

Oh yeah: 01 CRV

so how it started was pretty much taking the wheel off. tbh nothing is really out of the ordinary imo. inherited the car this way in the process of changing axles, and converting rear drums to disk eventually.

a-ok right?

then i dig a little deeper and find this.. dont know the name of this exact shaft but its behind the axle. the boot is completley ripped so im assuming oil and grease are jsut flying everywhere but thats no reason for noise or is it?

i now quality sucks but what you see here is pretty much the bushing on the passsenger side of my car. is this cause by uneven wight distribution? ive recently gave my supervisor a couple lifts home and his is a big dawg. ( a little on the heavy side). also on the same note any ideas on how i may improve my supsension? suspension is completely OEM if im not mistaken but forgot to take accurate pics.

now to reason for the noise and the whirring noise was the mounting bolt for the caliber. i swear i put enough torque. the hayes manual for my car said 14 for the top and 13 for the bottom which i did. i made sure the threads on the caliber where perfect and ended up buying new bolts for $2.50 each but they made me buy the pair for $5.43

at least i found my problem or lets say part of the problem. any advice on how to fix that broken boot. or at least give some insight on what is? location is like right behind the passenger side axle and connects directly on the wheel. right behind the rotor on the left side (if lokking at my pic of the caliber)

Good find on your caliper bolt!

It's a little difficult to tell from your pic, but I'm assuming the boot/rod is question is located between the axle and firewall?
That would be your outer steering tie rod.

Found this pic on the internet -

The "bushing" you have a pic of is the ball joint that attaches the steering tot he control arm. it has nothing to do with suspension weight distribution. When THAT part fails, your steering gets sloppy. If THAT part -breaks- then your wheel steers itself (no longer connected to steering wheel) and turns completely outward or inward on it's own doing serious damage.

Shocks and springs are your main components for the weight distribution. Then you have the bushings that connect the upper and lower control arms to the car.
This images is NOT correct for your car, but gives a clean general layout for the parts.
This image is for a rear wheel drive car. The 'spindle' is called a knuckle on your car and has a hole for the axle to pass through. The wheel mounts to the knuckle and the knuckle has a ball joint at the top and bottom which mount to the upper and lower control arms. The ball joints allow the knuckle to rotate side to side.
Your steering outer tie rod connects with another ball joint and rotates the knuckle+wheel when you steer.

thats just the inner tie rod boot. just buy a replacement boot and it will come with zip ties to secure it. fyi this peice does not rotate like the axle shafts. its stationary and only pivots left to right. its the actuel part that controls your steering at the tires. you have to remove the outer tie rod from the knuckle to replace i would inspect the balljoints both inner and outer on the tie rods and replace if they are very easy to move. they should be on the stiffer side. there are a few vids on youtube.
