Just installed a set of camshafts with .509" lift on the VTEC lobe in an otherwise stock 2000 H22A4 head casting... and after spinning the engine over a few times I noticed some slight resistance on occasion. Further investigation has revealed that the VTEC lobe is making contact with the bottom of the aluminum oil rail/bar bolted down across the cam caps.
My first thought was to remove the oil rails and machine a small recess in the middle of the oil rail slightly wider than the VTEC lobe on the camshaft to allow the proper clearance when the lobe peak passes by.
Has anyone else run into this... and if so, what did you do to fix it ???

You can machine them and you'll be fine - There's a lot of people that are doing this to clear larger camshafts.

Crower Stage 3P's (part # 63423P-2)... just like the old stage 3's I used to have, only with .040" more lift in VTEC. I have machined the contact areas and re-installed the oil rails. She sounds just fine now. Time to strap her down to the dyno...
