Default Crank pulley torque spec double check

I tightened the crank pulley bolt to the spec 14 ft/lbs using a wrench measuring 168 in/lbs... it hardly felt like any torque at all before the click. I tested by spinning the pulley through a few cycles. It's on there. Not much torque to attach these, eh? And the FSM even says to lubricate the threads of the bolt and the outside of the bolt's washer. I used a small amount of anti-seize. I'm half expecting it'll come flying off, lol.

On what motor? I have a feeling you're missing a 0 in that torque spec.

I know, right? Seems like way too little... but it's a 1998 D16y7 and the 1996-1998 FSM clearly says 14 ft/lbs on page 6-17 (and several other places in the manual). The belt tensioner bolt gets 33 ft/lbs and the cam pulley bolt gets 27 ft/lbs but the big 7 pound crank pulley hanging off the bottom of the engine's side just gets 14. And the FSM shows you where to lubricate it along the threads and washer!

It feels wrong, but there it is.

Correction, it is 14 ft/lbs "+90 degress" ... meaning an extra quarter turn. Gonna go fix it. Thanks for being skeptical... that's what I needed to avoid a BIG mistake... made me go back again to the page.

It's because you oil the threads and washer, 14 ft-lbs oiled is more like 50-60 ft-lbs dry from what I understand. I think there is some exacting formula and also depends on the lubricant used etc etc. Also you failed to mention, after the 14 ft-lbs, you turn an extra 90 degrees, known as quarter turn tightness.

Here is the FSM page for everyone else to see what you saw and said huh???

You missed my own correction message, posted just before yours. I caught it. But thanks for checking.

Actually I believe we were posting at the same time or darn near. I failed to edit the post to reflect what I saw after submitting. Figured I'd already put so much time into it, I'd just leave it as is. Everyone can see you caught the error.
