First post as a new user, please don't kill me if this is stickied somewhere.

My 96 Honda Accord LX has an issue with the windshield wipers.

The wipers work on all speeds. The issue is when you turn the wipers off. The wipers will stop 90% of the way to the bottom then park themselves still within view. It's a minor inconvenience but it's still annoying.

When I hold the wiper switch to turn them on 'manually' the wipers work. However as soon as I let go of the switch, the wipers stop mid-swing.

I've replaced the motor and linkage with ones from a junk yard. I made sure to adjust the motor based on the 3 arrows on the linkage when last installing. I've seen no noticeable change in doing so.

Does this sound like a bad switch, relay or control module to anyone? I'm stumped.

 

The motor has an internal switch for the Park/Run. The flipping of the internal switch is control by the rotation of the motor itself. Since you replaced the motor already, there is a good chance your issue is due to a faulty combination wiper switch.

 

Is there a continuity test or anything I can to do test the combo switch before I go ahead and replace it?

 

The wiper motor already receives power (+) via a Grn/Blk wire from Under-dash Fuse No. 6 when the ignition is in ON or START. It just needs the ground source (-) coming through the combination wiper switch for Hi or Lo operation. For intermittent operation, the ground source (-) comes from the intermittent wiper relay, which is controlled by the combo wiper switch and Integrated Control Unit. Your issue occurs even outside of the use of the intermittent wiper; so, it is probably not an issue with the Integrated Control Unit or intermittent wiper relay.

• For Hi, the ground (-) comes through the Blu/Yel wire from the combo switch to the motor.
• For Lo, the ground (-) comes through the Blu wire from the combo switch to the motor.
• For intermittent, the ground (-) comes from the intermittent wiper relay through a Wht wire back to the combo switch and then through the Blu wire (Lo) to the motor.

For the Park/Off operation:
When you turn off the wiper switch, ground is provided for the low speed winding of the windshield wiper motor. The ground is provided through the wiper switch, intermittent wiper relay, and the cam switch on the motor to G401. The wipers run at low speed until the cam switch on the motor moves to PARK, removing the ground. The wipers then stop in the park position.

Your issue sounds like an internal contact issue with the combo wiper switch. The combination wiper/washer switch has various internal switches (various switches related to Hi, Lo, Intermittent, and washer operation). I have no prescribed tests for your issue.

Is replacing the combo wiper switch the best option in this case? Where does said switch live on an EG?
