Hi, I have a 94 civic ex and found an open-ended wire coming out of the harness just below the distributor while I was changing the distributor o-ring. I capped the end of the wire w/ some electrical tape but I'd like to know what it is.

Best info I've found on the net is something to do with the power windows...any ideas what this wire is?

Engine was running fine. I've been working on quite a few things with this vehicle: new distributor o-ring, replacing the AC system, new motor mounts, new wiper switch, troubleshooting non-op speedometer/odometer, the list goes on (of course not all at once)...just came across this wire in the process of replacing the distributor o-ring.

I haven't had the vehicle very long (month or so) and only driven maybe 40 miles. It seemed to have other electrical issues that I've been troubleshooting. Battery would be dead after 3rd or 4th start or so (little to no driving in between). Car has aftermarket ignition coil (MSD Blaster), looks like new alternator and battery new this past Feb. No parasitic drain issues - charged battery, brought it home at 12.7v a few days ago, left it out of vehicle completely unattached and it is down to 12.58v now. I'm not sure that's normal?

Does your temperature needle work? That wire sounds familiar from working on that exact sensor two days ago.

 

Yellow/green is the wire for the temperature sending unit.

 

 

Thanks for the replies. I'll dig into it more once I get everything back in running condition. None of the gauges were working, so there are clearly electrical/harness/sensor problem(s) somewhere.

I'll also post a pic of this rogue wire once I'm converted from a trial user on the board, since I just signed up. Thanks.

 

First of all I'm a girl and I work on my own Civic 96 Civic DX sedan I put a cold air intake on it first of all I got it back there was no intake so I put a cold air intake on there change the plugs change the spark plugs wires I rebuilt the throttle body there's that little wire that everybody's talking about hanging down I don't know where to attach it to that coolant temperature place I trying to time it myself I had to bump my motor ever so lightly I got a tool the top dead center too and TDC I put it in and it doesn't go seem like I'm too far off I'll attach a picture of how I had it now I know I have to jump this little thing underneath the dash with a clothespin or whatever I did I don't know where to start now do I have to retime it it because I tried to start it before I put that paper clip in and will that wire hanging down at everybody's talking about keep my motor from turning over I know I have it the plugs in the fight right firing order which would be 1342 or is it 1432 please correct me if I'm wrong thank you

 

The motor just doesn't completely turn over I'm just not could it be my starter I do have two wires attached to it going to the inside that's how I got it back because I was arcing it myself before I sold it I have a brand new battery it seems like it doesn't have enough juice to turn over that's how it sounds my motor when I'm trying to start it could that just be it could it be my battery I just got a brand new on $202 and when I took it to charge it they said it was default and I got another one now it sounding like that is there something draining these batteries do you think I never happened before I sold it I'm ever so upset you know I got it back and pieces I'm trying to fix it please help thanks
