Door lock actuator Coupe vs Sedan
Hi all, is there a difference between the door lock actuators for a two-door and a four door? I have a 96 coupe with a bad actuator in the passenger door and was wondering if I could get an actuator from a 94-97 Accord sedan. Is it possible to interchange these parts from sedan to coupe?
The motor seems to be spinning fine but theyre is a white disc-looking thing on top of a gear, that disc-looking thing is not spinning when i hit the switch
If the top piece doesn't move:
1. Examine the gear teeth on the top piece and the pinion (small gear). Are all the teeth intact or are some missing? One or two broken tooth usually will still work; but, if a lot of the broken, then you may want a replacement.
2. If the gear teeth are fine, then look to see if the plastic piece (where the arrow is in the picture) is still there. If it is not there, a small spring is not being compressed, which would cause what you describe. The spring may also have come out if that plastic piece is broken.
If that plastic piece is broken, you can try to wedge something there to compress the small spring in place.

Although this doesn't sound like your problem; while you're examining things, check that the two rubber stops are not torn inside the actuator. It is common for one or both rubber stop to be torn. If they are torn, they can be re-glued with quick drying RTV silicone, super glue, whatever. The two rubber stops are to limit the travel of the gears, one stop to limit for locking and one stop to limit for unlocking. If a rubber stop is torn, it may cause the door lock to buzz or cycle.
