Maybe this has been asked already but I couldn't find the thread.

I want to replace the coolant. The one it has, is blue. Should I stick to the blue coolant or I can put any other coolant?

I am planning to replace the timing belt/water pump also. So should I wait or the coolant flushing is not need when replacing timing belt /.water pump?

50/50 green works just fine no issues - its worth flushing/draining and replacing if your getting that deep into it.

if you do this expect to have a big impact wrench for that crank pully

 

The colors mean nothing. Just make sure its 50/50.

 

blue coolant is Honda i think. water pump/timing belt requires u to drain the coolant just do it all at once. u can get honda coolant or any brand except dex-cool which is GM/Ford only

 

The colors are used by OEMs to denote different formulations. With that said,some colors are compatible,but knowing which is the key. So it would be best to stick with whatever color(assuming its factory)is in it already.





Honda switched to to Type 2 coolant in 2003.(it is blue) It IS compatible with green coolant,but it is superior in protection and mixing it with green will reduce its effectiveness....

 

Interesting how it is used in the older model in this case. Any info on the new updated formula? Something less toxic would be nice haha

 

They won't come out with a formula that isn't backwards compatible so you can use any coolant in an old car but perhaps not be able to use an old coolant in the new car, but even that I find hard to believe.

Lots of aftermarket coolants have different colors. I've never seen one that stated it was for a certain car.

 

For the most part you are right,however there are some coolants that are not backwards compatible. (with regards to other OEMs)
Haha, thats because they arent. Universal coolants are no better than universal transmission fluids....

any link about how to flush the coolant? Or just drain it , and fill it up?

 

Just drain and fill.

 

If you are that worried about it, there is also a block drain bolt on the back side of the block you can use as well.
