Why did auto zone ask me this?
Maybe I'm wrong because I have no idea what car we're talking about, I made the assumption we were talking about a car with a timing belt driven water pump which would have no impact on the accessory belt or whether or not it has a/c
autozone???? all i have to say is LMAO!!!! you shouldn't be getting those cheap as pumps and belts anyways and last time i remember.. no it doesn't matter if its a/c or not never once had a honda dealer rep ask me that before
if you told him you were going to replace accessories belts then that may be why he asked you that. and that shows they don't know squat they just want to try and sell you more parts typical autozone
I'd agree with the autozone bit, but around my area none of the parts store employees seem very well educated with the parts they're selling...and I get tired of hearing about how I should buy the "gold" pads and rotors instead of anything else because of blah blah. I prefer having part numbers before I go anywhere, as well as wearing my uniform so I don't get a "tech lesson"

Eh...knowing a little and thinking you know a lot in my opinion is worse than just admitting you don't know. Past few times I've had to go, the cashiers were all planning on leaving their job (at autozone) to become technicians, kinda scares me lol

ask for a part for a manual transmission, and he will ask if it has an automatic, computer makes them hahahahah, I have actually gotten them to search for a water pump for a VW bug, looked in the paper catalogs and everything, just couldn't find it. I'm sorry sir maby we can order it?
I went to auto zone cut I needed a timing belt and didn't want to wait for shipping. I did explain the question he asked me was intended for accessories not for water pump. Then he was like yeah my car water pump belt and a are connected and what not them I just told him forget about it and walked away...
Did he mention there's a special on brake grease? His car could have an external water pump...ours, not so much. One of the cashiers at my local autozone drives an Oldsmobile intrigue with a stick on hoodscoop, giant aluminum spoiler and spray painted stock rims. I don't rely on them for anything. Even when provided with part numbers they still get confused at times. Oh well, I couldn't do their job...I'd make some smart comment to the first customer who referred to their diff as a pumpkin lol
7th and 8th generation Honda Accords 4 cylinder have a drive belt (aka serpentine belt) that is for the water pump, A/C, alternator, and power steering. Some other Honda models too.
I realize that the water pump may or may not have anything to do with the accessories. However, another thing to consider is that a lot of these generic parts store sales/counter staff require this sort of information to start a search in their computer database. Similar to someone going online at majestic or partsonline. You type in Make, Model, Year, Engine and Accessories (if required), sometimes it won't ask for accessories, but when you get to the end of the search. You now have two or three part numbers to choose from. Then then you have to read the parts descriptions.
In short, the more questions they ask, the better chances are that you "might" get the right part!

hahaha last time i answered the questions they were asking i always get wrong parts. i always take part numbers now. even with part numbers they still try to ask me questions i just blow them off in a rude way and keep insisting to search the part number. autozone is a BIG joke!!!!!!!!! THE BIGGEST joke ive ever seen. **** even family owned parts store around me know more **** then autozone combined franchise

yep, I'm not sure what year they started using timing belt driven pumps, but I know all third generation back use an external pump
Yea, as I said I know the 3rd gen's do - still have one (89 LXi coupe) and have owned several other 3rd gen's (86 DX, 87 LX, 88 LXi, 89 LX - all left running or crashed by one of the kids). And if you know what you are doing you can change the wp without pulling the lower cover in the 3rd gens. Only had one 2nd gen and that was well over 20 years ago, all I remember about changing the timing belt on that car was the name of the guy who helped me
As far as 4 cyl engines - 90 thru 02 have the wp driven by the timing belt.

For 7th and 8th gen Accord 4 cylinders, although they were on the same belt, they pretty much all came with A/C.

This is going to be the best advice I can give you DO NOT BUY from autozone! unless it is something non critical IE a light bulb non OEM part! Here is why.....
I had to change a part on the VEC system called the valve timing oil pressure switch needless to say i got a giggle and snide comment about no such thing as timing oil... then when i did get my part they sold me one without a damn O ring!
of course the old O ring was done (id be very surprised if it hadn't been trash being on it god knows how many years!) needless to say i ended up at the dealer getting a damned O ring for 1.50$ After wards I found out if i had gotten the part from the dealer it would have came with one... Never will I buy critical parts for my Honda from AutoZone.
