Icon6 Whats wrong with my 93 del sol fuel pump?

After i got my 93 del sol from my parents i encountered problems with the fuel pump. It wouldn't always work and so i replaced it. This fixed the problem for a short time but now the new pump rarely turns on and the car never turns over. Any suggestions of what is wrong and the solution to the problem will be greatly appreciated.

What model Del Sol do you have with what transmission? All original or something swapped? If so, what has been swapped?

Does the engine no longer turn over? Or the starter engages and turns the engine but the engine will not fire.

What makes you think that the new pump rarely turns on?

Probe the pump wire with a voltmeter - do you get voltage with the key turned to ON(II)?

If you don't, remove and test your main relay. If it fails, repair or replace it.

If you do, what fuel pressure are you getting at the filter?

Yeah I agree...test your main relay. Especially if the pump priming is intermittent.

It's your ECU.
The capacitors are shot from age, humidity/moisture and heat.
The fuel pump priming circuit becomes a intermittent problem until it finally totally fails. This problem is so common especially now at the 21 year old age of these ECU's. Borrow a known good ECU if you want to check it out.
Start calling junkyards to find one. Auto and stick are different ECU numbers.
Check the label on the ECU.

If he is stating that his fuel pump isn't priming than the main relay should be the first thing to inspect. Along with ignition wiring next, go from there OP.

I agree he should check the main relay first (it's easy) but the 93 del sol specifically is a little leak box. The ECU area passenger floor compartment is a water collection area. The fender seams and the roof rubber trim leaks to the ECU area is a real problem. Because of this specific model car ( and if the OP lives in a humid climate like Florida) I would guess ECU. I chased this problem myself in my 93 sol over a year and a half. I changed fuel pumps (twice), main relays, ignition switch. When I replaced my ECU I hung a plastic cloth over the ECU like an umbrella. The outer housing of my ECU had condensation corrosion. The capacitors specifically C14 on the ECU pcb are the first to go.
Good luck.
