Default Low Compession and Oil on electrodes

did a compression test of the GSR i just swapped in today, last night I got the whole exhaust put on last night... drove it to redline a few times... nothing crazy. Kinda sounded like a subbie this morning when I started it. Did Compression test

1:205 2:207 3:202 4:155

there is oil on the #4 plug (not on top but at the electrode end..).. the rest are dry...Afaik. was kind've upset after all the work this happens.. car just feels down on power.. still rev's to redline...smoothly..idles rough.

So since it was 150psi.. Im thinking its not a bent valve.. cams look in time yet. Headgasket or ring? there is no knocking... Any way I can get some clues as to what it is before teardown? thanks guys...

gsr down

The compression test kinda gives you the hint that it might probably be the HG. If you want to be certain then do a leakdown test just in case you're losing it somewhere else. That's what you asked isn't it?

If you're not able to perform anymore tests then you'll just have to live with it.

lol live with it? no sir, I will fix it.. I was just asking if there is anything that would tip me off to one problem or another...I got into contact with my honda guru friend and he said compressed air test too.. only way to know without pulling head, he also said he highly doubts its the HG.. and is leaning towards bent or burnt valve...or rings.. and if its rings the motor isnt worth the effort and he knew a guy with a gsr long block for 800$..Idk if thats a great or bad price... but thank you for the quick replies. I guess ill figure out a way, he was saying.. put car in gear with ebrake on.. take out the valve on my compression tester..and hook it up to shop air.. line the hash marks up for TDC and listen. So ill prolly try that. I dont have any other option really.

Thats exactly what a leakdown test is. Next time if you dont understand ask or google.

Compression and leakdown test...until you do those, we can only speculate. Unlike your friend, I would suspect the headgasket....its an easy fix anyway

With oil on the plug on that one cylinder, I'd be inclined to take a close look at the valve stem seals.

I know what a leakdown test is. I was simply asking if there would be any clues as to where the leak may be BEFORE i perform a leak down.. IE differences in compression test in the bad cyl....burn valve reading lower than a HG leak...stuff like that.. Also, all I was doing by explaining the procedure letting everyone know how I was told to do it. So the engine doesn't move when applying the air pressure at tdc. But assume away sir.

Also yeah the oil on the end of the spark plug.. my first reaction was oh no..oil there.. but I think what happened is the sparkplug seals(?) (that keep oil from valve cover from sparkplugs cylinders) went bad .. and when I pulled the plug it just flowed to the end of the sparkplug., but was actually not on the electrode at all..but pooling up above it..My reasoning is that im assuming since cyl 1 is firing albeit low compression, the oil would be evaporated anyways in combustion.

But I will deff check valve seals too, Notaracist! could also be a culprit.

Finally.. Schister, thanks for the post. yeah I HOPE its a head gasket, I really do.. I added some oil to the cylinder in question today and redid a compression test and it only went up by 1 psi.. so I'm guessing my rings are safe...But without this leak down.. which I cant do till sat I wont really know.. but I heard the oil usually increases the compression when its a compression ring...But meh my friend has been doing hondas a long time.. lets hope hes wrong.

again thanks for all the replies. will keep thread update...sucks I only got to drive it for one night.. and it does this... owned many many b series and d's.. never had something like this happen.. even when i was 302whp turbo'd stock gsr (drove from 116k-150k absolutely stock down to the hg at that power level)..they've always been so good to me. sigh..
