1st Gen Teg vs. 2nd Gen Teg
Alright, my '89 Civic Si might be on her last legs. 217k and bad though.
When the time comes to buy a new beater, what should I get?
I really want an older Integra. My first car was an '86 LS 4 Dr, and I loved it, miss it to this day. So should I go get another 1st gen, or should I pickup a 2nd gen so that way I'll have had all generations?
First year for the GS-R was '93 right>? How much more is insurance with the gs-r than the gs?
For those that have had both/driven both generations, what would you do?
I have never driven a second gen, only ridden.

I would say go with whatever you want to do. It seems you are partial to the first gen so go with that if it is only a beater. The 2nd gen gs-r's were made in 92' & 93'
If you know how to work on the Type R, and you know how to work on the 89 Si, I would buy a 90-93 Integra.
88-91 EF uses the same basic chassis as the 90-93 DA. A lot parts that fit a type R can actually be fitted on a DA chassis without much modification. I know you said you weren't going to modify it, but this comes into play for wear items. If you don't care if the beater is in tip-top shape you can just sway some items.
Also, the 90-93 DA comes with a B-series engine which may or may not be more familiar to you. A GSR doesn't really make a good beater car. Expensive if in good shape, expensive insurance, and very rare (reported to have less made in both 92 and 93 than the Type R's altogether).
BTW, GSR's were only made in 92 and 93. I'd get a 90-93 DA non-VTEC beater.
