My CRV has a loud crunching noise in the left front wheel that occurs when backing out of the garage, goes away soon only to occur later on when driving. Brakes pads appear to be free with lots of miles to go. Local non-Honda dealer said everything looks good.

 

How many miles on the vehicle?

First thoughts are bushings or ball joints.

 

I have 51k. It was a relative's vehicle that I purchased at 44k.
