WTB 96 civic CX Catalytic Converter
2 cats? Wouldn't I have to cut and weld exhaust? Why 2 when I can just replace the bad 1. I just replaced both o2 sensors. And that brought down the number for smog, but I need it lower so, the cat needs to be replaced

Try sea foaming it. Mine failed miserably. I sea foamed it, then changed fluids, did a tune up and it was ten times cleaner.
Ruben if you get smogs for $150 your buddy likes you. Going rate is $250-$300

When it was cold, my car would bog down when driving off after starting. Put a new dizzy on it and it still did it. It was the cat the whole time. If the sea foam helps, it would still be a problem with the cat eventually? Right?
True but you also have to extend the secondary O2 sensor.
The manifold type Cat converter that's CA approve is about $470 and the universal type which require welding on the B-pipe is $240+installation.
If you plan to keep your civic for a long time, you should replace the cat. If you plan to keep it less than 2 years, might want to search around your local smog station. However, you'll have to smog again when you plan to sell the car.
I remember someone selling a new manifold type cat but I forgot if that was on H-T or craigslist.
Good luck.

If you sea foam it, set the timing and you dont have any CELs yes I would say it needs a new cat. Try all that stuff first. Ill even come help you if you are close since you need 2 people to foam it.
I'm pretty sure your talking about the O2 sensor.
A new Cat from a dealer will never be $270 especially Honda.

Retail is $760.

No CELs at all. Took to smog, it failed. The guy said check the o2 sensors and the cat. Mechanic did diagnostic and said the 1st o2 sensor was bad. Put in 2 new o2 sensors. Took it back to smog, it still failed, but not as bad as the 1st time. I'm open to thinking the sea foam would help. But if that 1st o2 sensor was bad long enough, it could of screwed up the cat. I never got any CELs. Thoughts?

Sea foam it man. You will be amazed seeing all the carbon come out. Not to mention your car will run much better. Plugs, wires, oil, sea foam, intake filter, you are out $50-$75, no big deal. If it doesnt pass, which i highly doubt, then get a cat. U can also shake the cat or tap it with a screw driver, if it rattles and sounds loose you need a cat.
Ok, I'm down to try the sea foam thing

Only thing is it runs through all that stuff. If you do it I really encourage changing the oil, spark plugs and fuel filter. Oil is a must, the sea foam will change its viscosity and it will not lubricate as well as it should. Google it too. Make sure your Rpms stay at 3000 or more as you are running it through. If the car dies while you are sea foaming it you risk hydro locking it. Its safe just KEEP THE RPMS UP!! Lol
it would be so helpful if honda design this piece to be a 2 pc design. Inspected the manifold over the weekend and found a crack on one of the ports.
