Default Removing the rear quarter moulding permanently, any downsides??

hey guys, Im looking to paint my Crx and am contemplating removing the rear quarter glass moulding permanently and painting right up under the glass.

Are there any downsides to doing this? Any holes that will be open to elements?

Mine are ruined anyways and the few pictures Ive seen I like the look it gives, but Ive never had them off, dont know what to expect.

I google searched and this is what I found.

EDIT:

Is this the desired look?

Also:
Well whatever you do dont pull it out! Its nearly impossable to put back in without pulling the window and it will leave a small hole that water will get into. When i get a nice day with a few hours to kill im gonna very carefully tape off my window and as much of my paint as i can and hit all that with some flat black..Its a small detail but i think it will help make it look like it flows better. To me i think it looks 10x better without the molding. and from the research i have done its not needed anyway as the window has glue that goes all the way around it. From my experience it took about 20 seconds to remove and about five minutes cleaning the paint up after it was removed. Hope this helps someone

Some say it will leak. Some say it will be fine. Typical.

If you remove it, the next would be thief will likely try and pry the window open back there, and either dent in the quarter panel with the prying tool, and or break the glass…..just saying.
