Is it possible to detune a type s so it runs on 87 octane??

Why?

If it's because you can't afford to fill up on premium, you should probably reconsider your priorities.

the money you would Spend on retuning it would be a year or 2 in the difference in the price of gas

Or maybe not drive the car as often can work in saving gas as well. You can also retune on e85. It's cheaper but might burn more. but hey, whatever works for you brother.

What a topic!! Detune a Type S? What's the point....that is what a non S is for

By switching a to base, you can use regular gas, plus get cheaper insurance. Sounds like you drive the wrong car

Detuning will not lower the CR and will trash your FE....

Yo, I got a 92 Civic CX with a B18B1 swap in it. 87 all day long Monica. I'll throw in a pitbull puppy with no papers and drive to Niagra for a straight title swap? You game bro?

You are driving the wrong car.

Your car requires 91 octane or higher because of its compression ratio. You can't just change software and expect to be able to run 87 octane. Even if you were to do that, it doesn't change your 11.0:1 compression ratio.

Ok i had a b16b which uses high compression pistons so id pump 91 octane. I turboed it against all advice from everyone on here and was told id need a way higher octane than 91 to make it work. Surprise surpise it worked out just fine and when it was tuned to use 91 octane all that was required was that the ignition timing was retarded slightly.
so shouldnt that work in this scenario as well?
Id appreciate answers from people who know what their talking about i dont wanna hear **** talk or opinion

Hondata kpro can allow you to run 87 with it. Or you could run k tuner and prolly pull a ton of ignition timing. Car will feel sluggish tho. Its only few bucks more!
