1990 honda accord ex 4dr f22a4 auto egr question
what is the egr solenoid mounted on the firewall suppose to do when in park and just giving it a hint of gas from under the hood i was trying to get her warm to test a sensor the coolant and fan switch. well while revving her around 1000-2500 i can hear the egr solenoid tick tick tick tick tick sounds like 4-5 clicks i took of the vacuum hose #16 egr and put it to my tounge and revved it to that rpm i was under the hood so i don't really know and it was pulling vacuum is that normal i thought it only engages around 30mph+ cruising im guessing this is why it stumbles sometimes when its warming up sometimes it starts no hick ups.
EGR works under part throttle, not MPH related. Load related, thats why it works under part throttle.
If you think the EGR is causing a startup issue, disconnect the vacuum hose at the valve, and start the car when cold. Would be best to T into the hose and monitor actual pressure during startup.
Control box on the firewall is just that, it controls/regulates the vacuum to the EGR valve. If the solenoid is making a racket monitor the voltage to the solenoid and the vacuum output to the EGR valve.
Kinky.
If you dont have a vacuum gauge, buy one.

alright sounds awesome. yes sometimes it seems like the egr valve opens when cold and it makes it stumble out kinda like the erg valve test, it should stall or stumble, i will try the cold start method with the vacuum disconnected. i thought it was the iacv just giving out but now i have this to go on. hahaha i only did the "kinky" part because i thought i felt vacuum back feed but no it actually is activating the vacuum control. should the egr even be used at all at cold start up? it doesn't do it constant kinda feels like a misfire in the mornings ill see if i can take a video as well along with the vacuum pump in the video
If you think there is a misfire issue, pull the cap, spark plug wires, and plugs. Verify the plugs are not worn, oil fouled, and properly gapped.
EGR never opens at idle or WOT. Only during part throttle.

its all been replaced. the car ran better with the #16 hose disconnected at cold start and idle as well as driving felt more power. hooked #16 and it feels low on power ive actually taken the intake manifold OFF the HEAD clean it inside and out drilled out the erg holes ran carb clean for days took like 4-5 carb cans to clean the ports until clear fluid came out this was done about a year ago. im guessing the egr may be faulty. all ignition components including spark plugs have been changed all less then a year old.
If the control solenoid is no longer sealing and allowing the EGR to operate at idle then the problem lies with the controls. Either the control valve is leaking, or the signal for the circuit is faulty. Re hook the vac hose back up and unhook the electrical connector to the solenoid and drive again. If the engine runs smooth again, check the wiring to the solenoid. One wire goes to the ECU and another goes to the 7.5A memory fuse.
If there is rapid clicking I wonder if the wiring is grounding out somewhere.
ECU controls EGR flow by monitoring the lift valve in the EGR valve and controlling vacuum via the vacuum control solenoid electrically.
