Default Sparco Ownz me!

I order my Sparco Evo2 seat and it takes 10 weeks to get to me . The Aluminum side brackets arrive 1 week later (11 weeks now) . A few hours ago I try to install the side mounts onto sliders onto the base bracket, and guess what, things don't line up by 2.5 inches ! Tomorrow I'm going to try to drill some new holes in the base bracket to get the sliders to fit. You would think that all these parts made by the same company would work with each other ! Did the guy who sold me the seat mention any fitment problems? NO. Did the guy who sold me the base mount say there would be any fitment problems (I specifically told him that I was mounting an Evo2 with alum side mounts on this base)? NO! I did see the fitment problems SandM racing had but that was nothing compared to trying to cope with a 2.5 inch margine of error !

ouch, i feel your pain....

i have an evo, and the side brackets (mine were steel though) and rails were fine, but the bracket was way high and really cheesy. i bought a wedge bracket and modded it to fit. good luck.

EVO2 is a wider seat than the EVO... that is a known issue, since sparco only makes one model of base to fit our cars... been there, done that.

Seat brackets are a pain in the ***!

I hacked/drilled/dremeled/grinded/welded mine and I have to do it all over again cause I still think it's too high.

Much easier to write a check to $150 and have Mitch Piper (or other fabrication guru) do it.

$150 bucks? Try $10 bucks of 3/8" steel stock, a drill and a dremel. And About 2 hours of your time. Mine didn't fit worth a **** either, but that's alot of cash for a simple problem. It's not fun, but you only have to do it once.

BTW, Cobra Imola II's don't fit on 90 Civic HB rails without some WORK.

Later, Overkll

Now that I have slept on it I have a new plan of attack. The foor base attaches to to holes in the floor just fine. The side mount attaches to the seat fine. The sliders attach to the side mounts just fine. The problem is that the sliders are 2.5 inches wider then the pre drilled holes on the floor base. Okay so why not just drill new holes? The sliders are so wide now that to drill new holes they would be somewhat near the edge of the brackets. The only good part is that the new drilling spot is where the metal slats overlap so there shouldn't be any tear out problems.

My seat mount required cutting and welding. The stock tabs on the floor were removed. New ones were welding into place. The rail is heavy steel stock, bent and welded into one piece. The seat could not be mounted low enough on the stock tabs, my helmeted head would have been awfully close to the rollcage.

It was two hours labor and I have no problem paying a skilled fabricator the going rate to have it done properly.

lol nothing fits on 88-91 civic rails without some work

I bought the sparco steel side mounts to go with my evo...after many hrs of cutting, grinding and swearing I ended up with a seat that felt like it was 2 feet off the ground. I must have played with it for a week as I wanted to use the sparco side mounts as they look so nice...but then I said **** it and bought some heavy *** steel L channels and used those...took about an hr and I had the seat nicely on the floor.

be happy you got your EVO.

after buying mine from a guy...he gets thrown in jail, uses my money for bail, and then doesn't talk to me for a few weeks after that. no phone numbers work, etc, etc.

Finally I reach him, and he's going to slowly pay me back as he works.

Plus, I bought the basemount from modacar and got reemed on the price....all for a seat that I still have to find cheap again somewhere else.

I think I'll walk...

I made my own base mounts using Sparco side mounts.

For anyone else considering this, unless you got the side mounts for free, I'd recommend not buying them. Buy the seats, carry the car and seats to a decent race shop and have them fabricate something for you. You'll save the expense of the side mounts and have a better setup in the end.

The side mounts were part of the package deal and the sliders I picked up used for $25. I did buy the base mount (which I regret now).

Another problem I have come across is that the side mounts are not parallel when bolted to the seat (the front is wider then the rear) so the sliders are not parallel to each other and won't slide when mounted so now I also have to slot the rear holes on the side mounts (more so then they already are) by another .75cm so that the sliders can mount parallel.

Yea, I got my side mounts in a package deal as well and felt obligated to use them for some reason.

Personally, I would weld extensions to your base mount for the sliders to attach to.
