Default PLEASE SOME BODY ANSWER! when figuring out corrct bearing

Ok guys ive searched and cant still come up with a answer. Im in the process of learning/ slowy doing s build on a jdm gsr. My question is when i do the math to figure out what bearings i need why does the numbers look in correct. For example Main housing bore 2.3237 Main journal 2.148 honda green main bearing 0.0789. When i use the formula housing bore-main journal-bearing thickness x2 It comes out to .0179 for the oil clearnce which is still in the honda range but it should look like .0017. Can some body please clear this issue up i would greatly appreciate.

Your measurments are wrong probably. .0179 is rediculously out of spec. Thats the kind of clearence a spun bearing would have.

Why dont you look at the block and crank stamping codes and get a couple oem vearings and plastigauge? I tried using dial calipers and micrometers and found it only useful for determining how out of round the journals were

i understand that the numbers dont look correct. Thats why im asking is there something that ive done wrong. i know how to read in thousandsth of an inch and initially those numbers didnt look right. Using that formula even with using the codes off of the block and crank still come out right. If any body has any knowledge please let me know it would great appreciated.

I flat out gave up trying to measure the block journals because I didnt want to spend 100+ for a tool that was accurate enough to do the job.

Its easier to buy a couple oem bearings by using the block codes, and plastigauging them to see if you need a thicker or thinner one.

Plastigauge it and see if the plastigauge confirms or denys your measurments

Ok guys i figured it out i feel very dumb right now. I miss calculated. My main journal is 2.1644 which gives me oil clearance of .0015 right in the honda range instead of 2.148 that i state earlyier andni was coming up with .0179 which totally wrong. Im glad i did make a post tho made me wanna figur this out. Sorry for wasting everyones time. For The sake of this conversation ID housing bore-OD main journal-bearing thickness x 2= bearing clearance or oil clearance. I choose honda green bearing. So.. ID 2.3237- OD 2.1644- honda green bearing 0.0789=.0015. I hope this helps some body. Moral of this story be accurate with your measurments. Thanks guys again.

Lol glad you were able to figure out where the calculation error was. I knew your math was right so it had to have been a measuring error.
