EG civic "use [...] new special bolts" with water pump install
Its in the factory service manual. In the water pump installation pages. Right at the top, in the directions.
I called up my local dealer and they told me they've never heard of that and it seems dumb.
but its in the FSM so I dunno exactly what to do.

OMG. Talk about inability to think critically leading to inaction. Those aren't one-use-only bolts you know.
My logic was that none of the bolts had "special" written on em, none of em said special in the factory service manual or in the parts diagrams, and that since Honda says its okay to reuse the head bolts, I dont see why water pump bolts should be any different.
but its in the service manual, so I raise my question again.
wtf is a special bolt

If Honda says to reuse them and even the Honda dealers have know friggin' clue what you or the FSM is talking about then WTF does it matter? Are you cramming for a test or something? You want to be part of the "special" club or something? Maybe it's a company brand or something? Think you're missing out if you don't have them? Did you bother to Google for an answer?

Yeah I tried google and google please search honda-tech.com also. I'm just confused why it says that you dont have to try and antagonize me over what the FSM says dude
You're the only one that seems to care about these special bolts. Don't understand the confusion over a non-critical detail that normal people would have said "eff-it" to and moved on.
Well im still die grinding my head and I'm waiting for my buddy to come back with his angle grinder so I can finish cleaning the water pump housing without unbolting the entire driverside of the engine.
I figured while I clean the block I might as well ask what the **** special bolts are since IV been thinking about it.

How many times and how many people are you going to ask that tell you that they've never heard of them before you actually listen?
Nevertheless, if the EG is like 96-00 Civics, one of the bolts is shorter than the others, so if you mistakenly try tightening a long bolt into that hole, you'll break it off. Ask me how I know,
Just because you're ignorant doesn't mean everyone else is.
I may call up Honda HQ and ask em wtf this is about, since honda tech doesn't know my dealership doesn't know, the factory service manual is so damn vague on this issue.
what are these special bolts? Why exactly do they need to be replaced? And seriously why does it say that without telling us which bolts are the special ones?
[joke]maybe I'll name one of the bolts Marc, and get a new one to replace it, that would be a tall tail sign that it is indeed 'special'[/joke]

I'm not sure which bolts in the diagram are "special". Might not be referring to the water pump itself.

I probably should have paid more attention taking them out and labeled them or something..
Come on man. You've been here long enough now to understand what Mark is all about. And if you're still getting bogged down by his method/style of catching member's attention and steering them in the right direction, then it's you who needs to do the soul searching.

This may help identifying the proper length bolts for the correct spots to avoid issues:

As can be seen the one under the pump in the diagram is shorter.

It was a royal pain to drill out that broken water pump bolt when it broke off in the block. I hope this saves somebody the headache I went through.

I figured it was all in good fun, I laughed at the picture of Mr Bolt that he posted. What I dont understand, just as much as I dont understand this special bolts business. Is why he gets to be a jerk to everyone and mess with em, while I have to put my jokes and sarcasm in brackets or get banned again
