reving high on stock valvetrain
how much harm can be done if i reved my gsr b18c1 valvetrain 500rpm more then stock 8000rpm. I have skunk stage one and ecu that let me reved to 9k. BTW i only do this at the track.
OT: Just wanted to know how the stage 1 skunk cams feel... I'm planning on getting a pair for my b18c1 but dunno (stage 1 or stage 2). Thanks, do you feel a big difference? tuned or untuned?
Um...thats not very true. Once in my old gsr, I was red lining in third gear and went to second and my motor went all the way to 9k and nothing happened but I big death cloud of black smoke. Im sure the valve train could hold revs to 8100 rpm to 8500 rpm with out damage.
Don't you think it is better to be safe than sorry? Get a valvetrain that is made to handle abuse over and over on the track if you wanna rev past the stock redline.

There could be other factors accounting for what you saw. For example, the tachometers are known to be a little off, so you could have been seeing 8500rpm, but the engine might have only been seeing 8200rpm.
one of my good friends revved his to 9k+ daily on a bone stock motor (dont ask me y he did... he just did) and then i know people who have dropped valves on stock heads from just under 9k... u make the call..
if i was u though i wouldnt mess around with revving high without some safety... get some springs and retainers and ull be fine then

I had a retainer split and dropped number three intake valve. The head was junk, and the block sleeves were cracked. Had to get a new head and resleeve the block. The motor ran great for 6 months at 8500-9000 on the stock valvetrain, but when it let go, it cost me. If you rev high on a stock valvetrain, you are playing Russian Roullette with your engine.

I agree - I would take all the necessary precautions and swap out the stock valves, springs and retainers for ones that are built to withstand that type of stress. Then, you can have more 8300 rpm of fun outside of the track!!!
