I need more power out of my b20
I have a 94 eg hatch with a stock b20 and I have $4000 to spend and I don't know if I should do a whole new engine swap or buy a stroked b20 bottom end for 2500 the bottom end is complete. You guys have any suggestions on what would be better?

How much power? why? how are your brakes and suspension?

I say for $4K do a B20-VTEC-Turbo and paint the valve cover red. Good luck.
4k? most reliable/fun option at full importer prices= b18c type r swap with 98+ lsd trans. stroked b20, etc not good imo, too many reliability issues and costs too much. edit: want torque also? go h22/ f20b. f20b= $500, better than the h22. usdm h22 lsd trans=500-1000$. swap parts/tune= $1k ish. leftover money and 200hp/150tq. learn: https://honda-tech.com/forums/hybrid-engine-swaps-18/f20b-faq-2018500/

For $4k, you could boost it...keep the stock bottom end as is (so long as its healthy) and set realistic power goals ~300whp. If you decide on this option, I would advise you to research before diving into it...9 times out of 10, failed turbo setups are a product of poor planning.
I am going to go out on a limb and offer that the OP is not considering boost as an option. If he is he should just put/keep that cash in the bank.
BTW, a car is NOT an investment.

If it was a DD I consider it an investment. If I had plans to boost its a toy car, or as Ron suggests donation.
Not sure exactly what you mean but i'll give it a try. I prefer JDM over USDM mainly because the JDM will have a lot less miles on it than the USDM. Then there is the fact that we all know JDM gets better parts. US B16 160hp, JDM B16 170hp, JDM B16B 185hp. 10 more HP and lower miles, thank you may i have another. For a non booted car the B20 should make good power with a B16 head just like the LS vtech (1.8) conversion does. But from what i hear the B20 isn't the best setup for boost due to the internal design. Keep in mind you'll need some way to manage this, i'd do it with an Hondata S300.
yeah, jdm engines do not necessarily have less miles. ever look at a front clip cut? look at the cluster. commonly 200k+kms. all you get is a shiny, pressure washed junkyard engine with a warranty.
Yay, people are finally starting to learn!
OP, you have two options. Build your motor, or boost it. Building it would consist of forged internals, raised compression, a VTEC head, a good pair of cams, and a tune. Boosting it would consist of a turbo, manifold, downpipe, upgraded fueling, and a tune. Either way, though, the B20 has thin sleeves, especially between the sleeves, so you'll risk grenading your motor without some kind of good (read: aftermarket) sleeves. No, a block guard won't help you.
Either way, if you don't already have one, get a CTR/ITR transmission. Your effective torque will become noticeably better, and an LSD is always a good thing.

edit: Also there were never any usdm versions of the b16b no comparison for that.
