Default My semi new toy

So I picked this car up in April as a new project. 2001 LS, b18b1 turbo, 5spd. I picked this car up with a half assed plastidip job with cheap *** paint and shotty bodywork underneath. Main focus was to get the car legal as it wouldn't pass emissions (p0131, p0141, p1337). After searching the internets, a couple of splices (p1337), 10watt 10ohm resistor (p0141), and a primary o2 sensor (p0131) later, it passed!

After I got it to pass emissions I realized something... How was the car tuned if it was obd2? Sure enough the car was running a stock obd2b p75, stock injectors and stock pump. So after doing some research I scooped up some DSM 450's, P05 ECU, jumper harness, and Walbro 255 pump. Got the ECU chipped by Speed Factory and the car runs pretty damn good.

Now on to the fun stuff! Peeled and scrubbed the dip off and started refinishing the body work.

Before:

During:

After:

Starting to clean out the engine bay of unwanted clutter. Wires tucked on driver side, power steering, cruise control and brackets galore gone, and some cleaning. After I finish the passenger side (hopefully this weekend) the bay will be painted silver. Don't know what's up with the gash behind the motor mount.... Gotta figure something out there.

And that is where I am now. More to come.

if i were you, i would tear the head off and and AT LEAST look at the pistons. if the previous owner ran boosted with no tune, who knows how much knock that block took. i personally, i would tear the whole thing down and take a good look at everything, check clearances, check for out of round on everything etc etc before putting back together just my 2 cents, good job so far though

Went ahead and started on the driverside. Pretty much got it done minus the ABS because no prop valve and lines. Need to look more into that. Not sure if I want to relocate the fuse box and Battery yet.

Did some work this afternoon. Just temp until I can get in there and actually strip the bay down. Couldn't stand the multi color bay anymore. Gonna let everything dry overnight and I will post the finished product tomorrow.

Put back together. Went to Lowes and scooped up some finishing washers and Allen head bolts for the fenders. Was gonna get some for the bumper too but they only had 6 of the right sized bolts.

Now I need to get rid of the abs pump!

I needed to repaint my valve cover because it looked like crap after putting my spark plug wire cover on so I picked up some VHT Wrinkle plus and got to work. Plus I had some stainless nuts for the valve cover I wanted to put on....

Great progress, glad that you're saving it and doing things right. Also it looks 100x better with the matched color engine bay.

Are those brackets safe enough for an accident?

The seats hold you so tight that you won't need to get in any accidents to have a good time, Debbie Downer.

Just go to a hardware store (or Lowes) and pick them up. M6x1x20mm stainless bolts and #14 (I believe) stainless finishing washers. Cheaper at the hardware store though.

So a small update and problem. I finally got a wideband (Innovate LC-1) with a brand new sensor for $100. The problem is that at idle the gauge is reading 22:1, cruising 20-21:1, light accel 17-18:1, WOT 11-11.3:1... Exhaust leak???? I followed calibration to the letter per the manual.

That turned out good for rattle can! and that wheel fitment is on point you could run them with less fender to wheel gap. I'm talking "credit card gap" would look sick with some CCW lm-20's.

Thanks! I still gotta wet sand it with 2500+ grit paper and hopefully it evens out more. Oh and I love lm-20s! Classics would look legit too!

looks good. It's unique. I love the lip, skirts, and wing. It's just my opinion, but if it were type-r yellow or championship white, it would look amazing.
