Default MIS SHIFTED NEED HELP

Well... like the title says i mis shifted and now everything is just messed up. i know for sure my timing is off because i hear loud ticking so a valve lash will be done soon once i get the tool this friday. Also oil is leaking from the front of my valve cover not my cam seals and small drips of oil are making its way into cylinder one and I've never had problems of oil leaks ever. I hear a deep "farty" sound coming from the top of my valve cover right near my IM... blown IM gasket? Last but not least at around 2.5k revs and when it drops below a metal scraping sound can be heard i wanna say its coming from my engine but i don't know for sure because it doesn't do it at idle... Valve knock? Need help and opinions on how i can fix these issues thanks!

so, instead of trying to figure out what's wrong. You proceeded to run the car and cause possibly more damage?

Make sure your mechanical timing is correct, if not, get it put back to where it needs to be, then do a compression test/ leak down test. Assuming it will still run.

the only driving I did in the car was around my block once to see if oil was still leaking after i re installed the valve cover gasket. timing is definitely not correct buddy is bringing me the tappet for me friday and i do plan on doing a comp/leak test as soon as timing is corrected. just wanted to see if anyone had experiences mis shifting in a GSR or in general and what i can expect to be wrong by my descriptions.

yea, you miss shift, rpm's go sky high, timing jumps, valve break, pistons break, sleeves break.

A lot of breaking can happen.

I don't think all of that broke because when i drove it home after i miss shifted there was no loss of horsepower at all and still feels mechanically sound

I didn't say it would all break, but those are the main things that do.

set mechanical timing it's possibly off slightly and that farting sound is merely the misfiring/lopey idle.

Bro you just made my whole night by telling me that I truly hope that's it. I'm gonna be driving the car like a baby from now on. Timing adjustment should fix the lopey idle or could it be caused by other factors? What about the oil leak in only cylinder 1?

Before you drive it again reset/check mechanical timing... to confirm TDC drop a 12'' ratchet extension down the #1 cyl and see what the gear "UP" marks read when the extension is at it's highest point, the valve cover should be off for this or if you have the cam gear cut outs just leave it.

when you say it's leaking into the #1 cyl I assume you mean down the spark plug tube right? if that's the case it's just a simple gasket they go bad over time 5$ at the Honda dealer.

I don't know what the metal scraping could be (YET) but I you can compression test it before driving it again driving it at this point is only increasing the risk of killing the engine for good.

Looks like I'll be going to honda and purchasing all new gaskets and adjust my timing thanks for the help. I'll post results around Friday night.

Maybe metal shavings from the miss shift got stuck somewhere? Change tranny fluid? Yes I will be doing a compression test as soon as I fix the mechanical timing

Too hard to say what that sound is drain your oil if anything don't worry about the trans yet.

What gear did you put it in at what speed? What trans and what motor?

Try to write out the whole incident. Was your foot flooring the gas while you mis shifted...or was this an intentional downshift? How long till you let off the gas if this was supposed to be an upshift?

^^^ you're right didn't think of that sorry.

I have a B18c1 with gsr trans and this is how everything went down lol...

It's a cool night, midnight, just got off from work and as usual I like to hit vtec (don't we all) so I'm power shifting, you know no big deal it's a honda never had problems before car drives perfect. As I'm shifting thru my gears everything is perfect until I shift from 3rd to 4th. All I see is my tach fly up way past 9k revs and say ****. My guess is I shifted to hard didn't enter 4th right and flew right thru the rev limiter. All I thought was imagine my car being able to hit 10k revs safely... Maybe one day.

But yeah after that I drove home gave my gsr a quick 2nd gear pull and car still performed just as good just loud ticking and a rough idle. Took off the valve cover and saw oil in cylinder 1 that's pretty much it honestly. Aside from the metal scraping noise that I have no idea where it's coming from

Wait....you put it into 2nd by mistake? I think you did if the tach went that high.

You Probably went from 3rd to 2nd by mistake while flooring it. Correct?

Unless your ECU doesn't have a rev limiter?

It actually didn't even go into any gear think about it.. Pedal to the floor ready to shift at 8k I'm in neutral flooring it basically so i don't even think the ecu could stop something that fast and it's probably a good thing it didn't

Lol....yes the ECU can stop that and its not bad if it does. It just cuts fuel and retards timing so the engine can't rev any higher.

If you put it into 2nd, then no...the ECU can't stop it from mechanically over revving. But you say it was in neutral and you just smashed your foot down? You won't have problems from doing that. That happens all the time.

Why did the tach go PAST 9k? No...iit's not because the ECU can't stop that. Yes it can. 100% for sure. Yes. It can.

You for sure you didn't get it into a gear?

Your clicking noise may be a broken trans piece in that case from you trying to jam the gear into 4th.

I am a 100% positive the transmission did not shift from 3rd to 2nd. Literally when I threw it into 4th it simply grinded and revs flew up past 9k.

I don't doubt that somethin broke in the tranny at all and would explain why I don't hear it at idle

Update:

I did not bend any valves or break anything at all internally. My timing was all messed up so I performed a valve lash, tightened my timing belt, and made sure my valve cover gasket was not leaking from anywhere.

Results: My GSR has never driven this good before thanks for all the input from everyone

Tightened your timing belt, eh?

You should change that belt and tensioner and spring now....
