90' Burning Coolant Under Heavy Braking?
Ive got a 1990 Accord DX thats sporadically burning coolant whenever the car pitches forward, I found this out whenever I went to start it one morning on my sloped drive way and got a giant plum of white smoke out of the tail pipe. Fearing the head gasket, I adjusted the valves to make sure they were intact and in working order, hoping one was just open for barely too long to allow coolant in. I had to readjust all of the exhaust side valves and none of the intake, and boy did she purr like a kitten after that. Before starting the valve adjustment I compression tested all of the cylinders, with each reading dead at 180 psi. with little to no leakage, just the o-ring on the gauge probably. Having read that the f22a will run at 135 I thought this was awesome for a motor with 330,xxx miles, right? So the other day I was cruising right at 45 mph when some a-hole pulled out in front of me and I had to go pretty heavy on the brakes, and as I slowed down the engine began to clunk and shutter, throwing white smoke out of the back. I pulled over to the shoulder and by the time I got out to look at the tail pipe the white smoke was gone and idle was back to normal. Anyone have any insight? If I end up having to replace the head gasket I was considering just doing a h22 swap, so what do you guys think?
Thats what everyone says whenever something comes up with it, mostly my girlfriend haha Ive said Im going to keep her going until she burns to the ground, so Ive got a little bit of biased pride invested in the car.
LOL 24 years YOUNG.......
Keep her going. I have just under 230,000 on mine. Granted I just pulled it out of the driveway after sitting for a year and a half.
Sorry I don't have an answer for your issue as its one I haven't come across with mine yet.
I'll follow this for future reference
Good luck...

any other issues that you have noticed? Pressure testing the cooling system would be smart. How fast is the radiator emptying and needing refilled? F22's are badass man. Im turboing mine. Solid motor. H is cool, if you like to be on the bandwagon. Let me know what you find, Im sure we can figure it out. Also if you change the oil do you notice any coolant in the oil?
Are you having to fill the coolant reservoir?
If not, I would say that your start up smoke and the smoke seen under braking could be from worn valve seals.

The oil is clean and has a nice coffee hue to it, no over heating issues what so ever, I think its impossible to get this thing to overheat at all haha. I havent [I]had[I] to fill up the coolant reservoir, but I topped it off the other day after I messed around with everything just in case something happened going down the road so I would have a little but of extra coolant in circulation. The valve seals are pretty much the prime suspect right now, but I cant complain that much with everything running as good as it is at the moment. Ill dig around some more and let you guys know what I find.
