i always use 100% synthetic with manufacturer suggested viscocity.

if the car has not hydraulic valves you can use a little thicker oil in a high performance engine or an engine that consumps oil.

ie if manufacturer suggested viscocity is 10W40, you can use 15W50.

Mobil1? In a Honda? Surely you jest.

Pennzoil 5W30 seems to be fairly impressive. It's a Honda HT06 oil for use in factory Honda turbocharged engines just like M1 (factory fill for the K23). But...Pennzoil has better volatility so it burns off less. I would say UOA's from Pennzoil are likely going to be better also. Shell produces Pennzoil Platinum/Ultra from natural gas instead of crude oil. So the base stock is a little more betterer...or...something...whatever they're trying to advertise.

Neither M1 or Pennzoil Platinum/Ultra are "actual" synthetics.

Try out the Pennzoil. I've been using it with 7K-8K mile intervals. Fairly slow burnoff rates. Good color and viscosity (visual) when I drain it.

amsoil signature series 5w20, best oil you can put in your car, has probably the lowest NOACK volatility available, 5.5%.... very good, TBN 12.6, very good oxidation resistance, and another best is their shear stability, dead flat on the graphs.

another really good oil, maybe even better than amsoil is TRC (texas refinery corp.), TBN of 15!!! very good TBN retention as well, great for extended OCI.

I am a Mobil1 person, in all my daily cars. May look at Pennzoil though after seeing this analysis.

Where are you guys buying this and how much? I can't find it locally to me in store and online looks like $50-$60 for 5 qt.

Walmart is usually $25.99. Advance auto has specials on Pennzoil every other month for $30-33ish with filter (K&N, fram, purolator).

In my B20vtec "toy" car I run royal purple 5w30 and K & N filters. In my daily, B16a2 EJ, I run whichever known brand name 10w30 full Synthetic is on sale by the case. Usually it's Penzoil or Shell. Have also used Castrol Syntec and Mobil1 on occasion. Filters are Fram TG or Bosch. I have never noticed any difference performance wise between the brands and the bargain priced Penz and Shell full Syns have been great oil. Honestly I wouldn't hesitate to run the same She'll/Penzoil lubricant in my built car and the only reason I choose to use Royal P in that is because I only have to change it 2-3 times a year so the cost doesn't burden me and it's "supposed" to be excellent quality. Plus it's colored lol
