Default how to tell if i have obd1 or 2

i just purchased a kinda basketcase 5th gen but its rust free and clean besides being slightly riced fom the previous owner. it has a jdm h22a in it with the auto tranny (i know im looking for a five speed) but its got afew random things wrong like a wildly erratic idle, and the rev limiter kicks in at around 6000rpm and im wondering if someone put a obd1 motor in improperly, how do i tell? would it even run? i can pull codes in morning if anyone is interested.

Okay I pulled codes and there were six of them and all the monitors were tripped, is this because someone put the h22a in without the usdm oil pump? I know not all the problems are from this but I'm betting at least some will go away if I get a usdm oil pump, am I on the right track?

ok ive been researching and it seems that h22a's dont play nice with the p5m ecu that is installed in my car, it seems i can replace the oil pump cover with a usdm one or i can convert to obd one which i dont know if it will work for me since i live in ny and have yearly emissions test, can anyone shed any light on this?

Swapping to OBDI is an instant fail for inspections in NY. All they do is plug an OBDII scanner into the car to check for coded. OBDI computers won't read, so you fail. The right way to fix your problem is swap to the usdm ecu, but there is a way to cheat by jumping wires at the ecu. Follow the advice in this link, my civic has had this done for years and has passed inspections in NY this way.
