Just got a 1991 EF 4-speed
Hello guys,
My name is Yuta and I live in Georgia Atlanta area. I just got a 1991 civic EF 4-Speed. I had a Del Sol before while I was in college, but I sold it after I messed it up. Back then I was not really a car guy because I didn't have my own place and tools to work on cars. Now I have my own places and I have tried many different vehicles and I realize the civic series is a real legend... I am amazed by the simplicity, the reliability, the handling, the potential of the engine, and the low cost of maintenance...
Well.. Here is a new problem with my EF I hope someone may be able to answer. As I was driving down the highway, the ECL came on and I noticed that the Speedo quit working. (It was working when I purchased it)...is the ECL related to the speedo? I have seen some vehicles with speedo cable removed but still would not trigger ECL..... I drove about 100miles on highway after this problem occurred....not a lot of feel in power loss, water temp remain the same... Will Autozone be able to read the code, considering this is an old vehicle with OBD-I (I guess) ?
Thanks in advance

Autozone will not be able to read the code. The check engine light will illuminate if you have speedo cable issues. I know because I had the cable pop out on me while cruising down the freeway in my 90 ED6 when i still had the D15B1 and the CEL illuminated immediately. I'd suggest checking the cable and behind the gauge cluster. good luck
