First off, I would like to introduce myself, as I am new to this forum. Hello to you all.

Secondly, I am in need of a new catalytic converter for my 94 Honda Civic VX, given that the previous owner had utilized an exhaust manifold from either Civic EX or SI, which is now cracked. I've found a used stock manifold, but now I'm kind of at a crossroads between stock OEM or a Bosal Direct Fit, catalytic converter.

For awhile now, I've been lead to believe that the stock OEM catalytic converter is necessary in order to maintain the high mpg fuel rating that the car is famous for having; but I'm starting to wonder if that's actually true. Simply put, do I need the OEM can't to maintain 50mpg, or will an aftermarket catalytic converter work just as well?

I'm not a Honda technician by any means, but applying what I do know about cars - it shouldn't matter who makes the catalytic converter. The catalytic converter is just there to convert the raw hydrocarbons into less harmful (but still bad) ones. It should not affect your gas mileage very much. On cars I've had in the past I have actually removed the catalytic converter completely and still managed to achieve the factory rated fuel economy.
